주로 니나 시몬의 노래로만 들었는데,

문득 오늘

제프 버클리 생각이 나네요.

 

 

'팀 버클리'의 아드님 되는

'제프 버클리'…

나보다 일곱 살이나 아래인데도

1997년에 세상을 떠나버렸지요.

 

미시시피강에 수영하러 들어갔다가

영원히 사라져간 그를 생각하면

난 종종 여덟 살의 나이에 익사한

내 동생이 떠오르곤 합니다.

 

 

단 한 장의 정규앨범

《Grace》(1994)를 발표하고는

서른의 나이에

세상을 떠나버린 제프 버클리…

그의 아버지 팀 버클리 역시

28세에 요절했다는 사실이

더욱 우리를 안타깝게 하고

또 니나 사이몬의 영향을 받았다고

스스로 고백한 만큼

내 기대가 너무 큰 탓이었나…

참 아깝습니다.

 

 

니나 사이몬의 'Lilac Wine'은

디즈니 애니메이션 '슈렉'에 삽입되어

국내에 크게 알려지지 않았나 싶네요.
