원천 봉쇄하고 안 듣게 됩니다.

이 곡을 잘 들어보시면

곡이 시작되기 전에

하늘이 무너질 듯한

그의 한숨 소리가 들립니다.

참으로 묘~한 음(音)입니다.

 

뭔가를 전하려는 듯하지만

나 같은 범인(凡人)이사

어찌 알겠습니까…

다만 참 아까운 뮤지션이

일찍 가버렸다는 사실이

그의 한숨 소리와 함께

노래의 주인공인 '다윗'은

국왕이자 당대 최고의 시인이었고,

누가 보아도 신의 은총과 사랑을

넘치게 받은 사람이었습니다.

 

그런데 다윗은 우연히

부하의 아내가 목욕하는 모습을 보게 되고,

욕망을 못 이겨 그녀를 범하게 되죠.

심지어 그의 충직한 부하는

음모를 꾸며 죽여버립니다.

 

그러나 신(神)의 속성은

사랑임과 동시에 정의이기에,

다윗은 신께 버림받고

친아들의 쿠데타를 피해 달아나는

고초를 겪게 됩니다.

 

이제 다윗이 아무리 아름답게

'할렐루야'라고 노래해도

신(神)은 받아주지 않습니다.

 

신(神)의 은총이 끊어지자

이제 과거의 따뜻했던 할렐루야가 아니라

절규하며 그리워하며 불러도 대답 없는

'차갑고 부서진 할렐루야'가 된 것입니다.

 

아마 살면서 누구나 깊은 죄책감을

경험할 때가 있을 겁니다.

이기적인 욕망에 져서

사랑하는 사람들에게 상처 주고,

나 자신과의 약속을 지키지 못하고,

알콜, 도박 등에 중독돼 삶을 망치는 등…

 

그럴 때는 누구나 자신을 혐오하게 되고,

모든 것과 단절되어

우주에 혼자가 된 것 같은 절망을 경험하죠.

 

이 노래의 노랫말은

그런 자기혐오와 절망의 터널을 걷고 있는

사람을 위한 것이 아닐까 합니다.

 

세상이 아름답고, 스스로 떳떳할 때는

'사랑과 정의(神)'가

내 곁에 살아있는 것을 느끼지만

그렇지 않은 경우 우리는 누구나

'다윗'을 경험하니까요.

 

그러나 이 노래의 끝이

단조에서 장조로 바뀌며 희망을 암시하듯

다윗을 다시 만나주신 신의 '사랑'이

절망을 겪는 누군가에도 나타나시길 바랍니다.
